It's Not Justin Bieber, But Breakfast is Good Too

Last night Sarah, Caroline's friend, spent the night.  Sarah's younger sister was the recipient of Bailey's extra Justin Bieber ticket, so she and Caroline decided to forgo the self pity and have a fun time together.  The girls drank hot chocolate topped with peppermint ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate chips, drew pictures, watched TV and fell asleep on the living room floor.  Justin Bieber who?

This morning Craig and I took them out to breakfast.  Because if you can't stay in a hotel and see Justin Bieber in concert, breakfast at the Silver Diner with your parents is the next best thing.  Right?

I've never been to the Silver Diner before, but it was really good.  They use lots of fresh, local ingredients and fresh baked artisan bread.  I snatched a slice of Craig's toast which was chewy, grainy, wheaty, sourdoughy and just plain yummy.  I'm not a huge big breakfast eater; if I'm going to eat an omelet, I'd rather have it for dinner.  While my dining partners all got eggs and home fries or pancakes, I ordered a yogurt, fruit and granola parfait.  And coffee.  I really only wanted the coffee.  My pounding head and clogged sinuses needed that coffee.

It was good coffee.

I like coffee.

The girls seem to have enjoyed our morning out.  Craig offered to grow his hair out like Justin Bieber and sing bubble gum pop music in a girly voice, but the girls wisely declined.  Caroline, who just adores her older friend (Sarah is 12) was so thrilled to spend one-on-one time with her.  I'm happy that Sarah was so willing to humor Caroline.  She teeters on the ladder between wanting to be a kid and wanting to be a teenager; some days she plays with the younger girls; some days she wants nothing to do with them.  I'm really glad she chose to play with Caroline; it really made her day.

Besides our early morning trek to the Silver Diner, we don't have a whole lot going on today.  I assume football is on the agenda, as is laundry.  When isn't laundry on the agenda?

Sigh.

Okay, off to tidy up and fold some laundry.

I hope your Sunday is more thrilling than ours!

My heart skipped a beat when you mentioned silver diner. When we lived in Clarendon I used to beg Jeff to go ALL THE TIME. I love their big salads, crabcake sandwich, grilled cheese... Just thinking about it is making me hungry!

On a non-food note, have you tried using the neti pot? Sometimes its the only thing that gives me sinus relief.

I was impressed with the Silver Diner's menu. I'd like to go back. I love grilled cheese sandwiches!

I actually have a sinus rinse, similar (I think) to the neti pot, but I hate using it. I know that's a lame excuse, but it just grosses me out.

Happy Sunday!

Just looked up the Silver Diner menu and this is what I want:
Crabcake & Sweet Corn omelette, Caramel French Toast, Sweet Potato Fries, Grilled Cheese Deluxe, Reuben (sandwich, not Studdard), Bar Harbor Fish & Chips Platter, and a Peppermint Patty and a Peanut Butter Heath Bar Shake. For dessert: Classic Carrot Cake with Pineapple, nuts, raisins, cream cheese frosting.
Drizzled with caramel (but not raspberry). A la mode.

I think that oughta do it.

Elizabeth--only if we can find a wig. The hair doesn't freely grow up on the top of his head anymore. ;)
