Better Days

My Christmas tree box has seen better days.

I'm not even sure if all that duct tape can fix this mess.  And duct tape can fix ANYTHING.

The tree is seven years old and has lived in three states, all the while serving our family so beautifully. It has traveled up and down I-95 twice and has been tossed from moving van to storage shed more than a few times.

It's still a lovely (and pre lit!) tree, but shoving a 7 ft tree into a 4 ft box over the past seven Christmases has left the box in quite a state.

A state of disrepair.

As you can easily surmise by the above pictures, our Christmas decorations have been put away.  Well, except for the tree, which is still in my living room, waiting to be dragged down the stairs and shoved into a dusty corner in our garage.  I fear for its ability to remain intact.

In a way, I'm kind of glad to see the decorations go, but a small problem remains:

with the tree gone, I'm once again reminded of the huge void of open space in our living room.

It's a great place to interweave a diabolical web of yarn to try and trip up your mother,

but I'm so over staring at this blank spot.

At first we decided against another couch (our couches and TV are in the basement) because it would just be another thing we'd have to move again.  We've lived in Virginia for 2 1/2 years and will be here for another 18 months.  I'm not sure I can stand looking at that blank area for another 18 months.

So, after we return from Florida next week, we're going couch shopping!

Hooray!

My (not so) subtle hints worked.

The kids will miss the spacious area where they tumble, create, dance and make a mess, but I don't care.  No, really, I don't care.

It's time for a couch.  Oh, is it ever time.

We actually had to get one of those Christmas tree bags last year. Our box officially quit and flopped open no matter how much duct tape. And love the yarn maze. It reminds me of the days my siblings and I would play spy in our living room, the yarn standing in for lasers.
Have fun in Florida! It's fantastically warm here right now.

Ah, I'll have to look into one of those bags. I seriously didn't know what I was going to do when the box finally goes kaput.

It's supposed to be in the high 60's next Sunday at Disney World. Yee haw, perfect running weather!
