I Suppose I Should Write Something

Because all twelve of you must be wondering what I've been up to.  When I last posted, I told revealed even more of my shameful, control freaky behavior in the tale of my "pretty" towel freak out.  And since then?  Well, not much has been happening.  I'm still very much opposed to the everyday (or any day!) use of  fancy towels,  but I must confess that I have very little to report otherwise.  In fact, the only excitement I've experienced lately is in the form of Buy One Get One Free cheese and double coupons at the grocery store by my gym.

I always complain about the commissary, because going there is a soul sucking event, but outside of the commissary, I actually enjoy grocery shopping.  I love regular grocery stores; especially those that offer ambient lighting, soft music, pretty packaging and double coupons.  If it weren't for the fact that I didn't have my phone with me this morning, I probably would have gone to the store again to score some more BOGO cheese.  And now you're probably wondering what my phone has to do with BOGO cheese.  Actually, the two have nothing to do with each other, but when Caroline is at school, I like to have my phone with me at all times.   You know, just in case she gets hurt, falls ill or gets in a fight and needs me to pick her up because she has been placed on suspension.  Instead of showering at the gym and then traipsing across the parking lot to buy more stuff we probably don't need (but is a steal because of double coupons) I went home.  And found my phone on the floor by the door that leads to the garage.

Perhaps my misplaced phone was God's way of telling me to lay off the BOGO cheese.

In other random news, we signed Caroline up for Girls on the Run.  Initially we planned to have her participate in the spring, but she really wanted to run with Craig in the end of the season 5k race.  Craig won't be available to run with her in May, but he will be available in December for the Reindeer Romp. I'm going to be a buddy runner for Caroline's friend Sarah again.  Sarah and I ran in the New Balance Girls on the Run 5k last May.  It rained cats and dogs that day and it snowed on last year's Reindeer Romp race day.  Here's hoping we'll have more cooperative weather this year.  Anyway, the first practice was yesterday and I'm pretty sure Craig and I were more excited then Caroline was.

And even more randomly:  I've developed a huge fascination with the lemony scent of Sun Light dishwasher detergent.  Normally I buy those gel tab thingies because they're convenient, however, for some reason I cannot recall, I bought liquid detergent last time.  And let me tell you, it smells divine.  I know it seems odd to sniff dishwasher detergent, but I can't help it.  I find the lemony scent intoxicating.  I'm not sure what's wrong with me, but every night as I prepare to start the dishwasher, I stop and repeatedly inhale the dishwasher detergent.  It just smells really good.  And it makes me insanely (yet flittingly) happy.

You know, I'm in awe that I managed to include talk of  double coupons, cheese, running and sniffing dishwasher detergent all in the same blog post.  I'd pat myself on the back for this epic achievement of superb randomness, but honestly, I'm not that proud.

Anyhoo,  in lieu of typing even more random babble, I think I'll quit while I'm behind and go eat a snack.  For I am of the opinion that a snack makes everything better.  Snacks provide a multi faceted service to us all; they distract us, reward us and enhance our moods.

Amen.

I love grocery shopping too... at the gourmet grocery stores. But if it's Walmart I try and hurry though.

Kate of What Kate Ate:
Your photos of squash look amazing!
I love reading about what people eat. That way I can eat vicariously and not gain a zillion pounds. Alas, now that I am "of a certain age," my metabolism has slowed to a snail's pace and everything hangs on.
Boo!
And Alison, of Neurotic Housewife fame:Love your blog! Your writing reminds me of your mom.
Oh, that would be me.
What's Ebony up to?

Oh I love gourmet grocery stores. They just know how to make everything so fresh and desireable. The commissary is cheap, which is good, because so am I (ha!) but its ambiance is lacking.

Hi Kate. Thanks for being lucky 13!

Dear I Suppose I Should Read Something:

You're weird! But that's okay, I'm weird too.

Ebony is back on the shelf, resting after Sunday's baking festivities, but I think I'm going to make Apple Pie Crumble Bars for Tuesday. I had to buy more baking ingredients today because I was pretty much out of everything. And, the neighborhood hoodlums ate all my chocolate chips the other day. Caroline and friends came in at nearly 6pm on Tuesday wanting hot chocolate. At first I was like, "um, it's dinner time, so NO." But then I felt bad. So, while Caroline ate her dinner and the hoodlums hung around and bugged me, I boiled water for hot chocolate. But they don't like just plain hot chocolate mix, they like to add chocolate chips to the cup so it ends up like chocolate sludge. I'm all for chocolate sludge, but they used up almost all the chocolate chips.

Sheesh.
