It's Not Fun Unless You End Up With Chocolate In Your Eyebrows

In other words:  we made Oreo truffles the other night.

We had melted chocolate everywhere.  Every. Where.  Urreywhere.

Hands, face, shirts, counter tops and even eyebrows.  We take our art seriously.  Well, *I* take my art seriously; Caroline's eyebrows were left unscathed.  She was a good helper, though.  Except she did get chocolate on her shirt and blamed ME.  She said *I* bumped into her.  I highly doubt that, said the girl who is absent minded enough to get chocolate in her eyebrows.

Anyway, Caroline placed the truffle balls in the bowl of melted chocolate while I coated them.  We make a great team.  I'm the control freak coach; she is the eager and less detail oriented chatter box helper.

The recipe ingredients are simple:  one whole package of Oreos, one 8 oz block of cream cheese, softened  and chocolate to coat.  Sprinkles are optional, but a fun addition.

Blitz Oreos in food processor to make fine crumbs.

Mix softened cream cheese with cookie crumbs to form a soft dough.  I use my (impeccably clean) hands.

Roll the dough into balls (I use a 1 tablespoon sized cookie scoop); place on waxed paper and chill for a bit.

Melt some chocolate of your choosing; I use semi sweet.

Coat the truffles in the pool of melted chocolate.  Transfer to a wax paper lined cookie sheet.

.
When the chocolate is still wet, you can embellish the truffles with sprinkles or, as the recipe suggests, some reserved cookie crumbs.

Chill until the chocolate hardens.

While the chocolate hardens, wash your messy hands

and do all those gloppy dishes.

I told you this was a messy job.

I mentioned decorating the truffles with sprinkles, which I do, but I prefer a contrasting white chocolate drizzle.

Oreo truffles are the perfect treat to package up and give to others.

Because otherwise, you might be tempted to eat them all yourself, which would be tragic for your waistline and your blood sugar levels.  Type II Diabetes is the last thing you want to receive for Christmas.

I bought these containers at Michaels.

Wait, I buy everything at Michaels.

Anyway, these lovely truffles deserve the finest packaging with the loveliest embellishments.

It's a good thing I have a surplus of Christmas ribbon.

The (very sweet) End.

Love the image of chocolate eyebrows! Sounds like a great night and looks delicious. I am not much for Christmas cookies but I do love Oreo truffles and buckeyes. Happy Christmas Eve!

Sounds like you need some eyebrow therapy. Let the plucking begin!

P.S. If I find a box big enough, I'm shipping your dad up to you. It involves pants. He does NOT still weigh what he weighed before his heart surgery yet still thinks he wears the same size pants. Which he doesn't.
At 6 a.m. I made him go to Walmart to buy new jeans. He can't go to church "lookin like a fool with his pants on the ground."
The saga continues....

Hilary--I like cookies, but big chewy cookies, not necessarily Christmas cookies, except for any that have frosting. I like frosting. Happy Christmas Eve to you, too!

Mom--you need dad. Please keep him in Florida. He doesn't need to live with me; it's too cold here and he'd have to wear long pants all the time. I suppose I'll never understand that man. If I needed smaller pants, you better believe I'd be jumping at that chance. Such an opportunity rarely presents itself....especially when you have Oreo truffles and various other goodies hanging around the house.

Why doesn't he want smaller pants?
