Snow

Boo.  Hiss.

Most people like snow.  I can see why; it's clean, crisp and peaceful.

I'm not a monster; I like clean, crisp, peaceful snow, too.

What I do not like is snow when I have things to do.

I do not appreciate being inconvenienced.

Nor do I appreciate snowy, slippery stairs.

It's just a little bit of snow (1-3 inches); nothing like last December's uncharacteristic snowstorm  and February's Snowpoclypse I and II, so I can't complain too much.

School is closing two hours early and if the previous years are any indication, school will probably be delayed two hours tomorrow morning.  That's all fine and dandy except......

We have one more big long run to accomplish before next month's marathon.  That long run was supposed to happen tomorrow.  20 miles.  20 big miles that I NEED to conquer strongly; with authority.  I need to tackle those 20 miles and come out on the winning side so that I have some sort of confidence going into the marathon.  I'm ready to run, but the elements aren't working in my favor.  I had a dream last night that I ran a marathon in 7 hours and 50 minutes, which is about three hours longer than my goal time.  Hopefully this dream doesn't prove to be prophetic.

If school is delayed or if the conditions are frightful, I won't be able to run tomorrow.  I'll get it done sometime this week, or maybe even this weekend, but I'll just have to do some schedule rearranging.   Obviously, this is small stuff; I shouldn't fret, nor should I complain about things beyond my control.  Oh, who am I kidding?  Sweating the small stuff and trying to control things I cannot are the two things in which I excel.

The rational, level headed side of me knows there really isn't much I can do about it.  I suppose I should just sit back and enjoy the calm snow.

Snow really is beautiful.

Well, until it starts looking like this.

I am going to wish you good luck on your run early. I hope its fantastic although 20 miles and fantastic don't usually go together. You will totally conquer those 30 miles I know it! And when all else fails with outside weather there is always the treadmill. When we trained for Nike it was so HOT the treadmill and a/c actually made some of the runs bearable. Stay warm!

Thanks Hilary!
Unfortunately, it's not going to happen tomorrow. Fairfax County just issued a 2 hour delayed school start for tomorrow. School won't start until 10:40; it'll be too late to run by then. Besides, I'm sure the Mt. Vernon Trail is a mess right now. Craig is going to check it out and possibly do his own run, but I'm a no-go because of school.

I'm not sure I could handle 20 on a treadmill, but I may flip flop weeks and do 12 on the treadmill this week and do the 20 miler next week. I'm not anti-treadmill; I do all of my mid-week runs on them because I'm already at the gym for Body Pump, but 20 miles would be really, really boring.

Thanks for your support!
