Say Cheese

It's spring picture time at Caroline's school and somehow I got suckered into volunteering at picture day tomorrow. I shouldn't say "somehow" because I know for a fact that my inability to say no is what got me into this mess. Well, that and also, that ever present and unshakable mom guilt. As it so happens, my neighbor does the PTA volunteer coordination and she asked me if I'd like to help. I technically don't really want to volunteer (because I'm selfish and entirely unamused by the idea of spending the afternoon with a bunch of 4-6 graders)but I said yes anyway. Unless I have a decent excuse, I don't like the lingering guilt I feel when I shirk my parental responsibilities. It's not like I have a job to use as an excuse...or another kid at home to focus my attention on. Ladies of leisure, who spend copious amounts of time by themselves every day, should volunteer when needed.

However, there is a benefit to volunteering at picture day: your kid gets free pictures. Not a bad deal, if I do say so myself. I'm easily swayed by the proposition of acquiring free stuff. Of course, my child hasn't taken a decent school picture in two years, so who knows if the free pictures will be worth the three hours I'll be spending in picture purgatory.
Actually, I really only want the class picture, but the class picture isn't included in the "free pictures" lure the PTA uses to get parents to volunteer. I still have to fork over $13 for the class picture.

Oh well.

I suppose it won't be as terrible as I'm making it sound. I pretty much just have to make sure that no one has gunk on their face and/or hair in horrible disarray. I could probably do that. At least it's an afternoon slot, so I won't have to forfeit my gym time. Sheesh, don't I sound like a spoiled, heartless whiner mom? But, in my defense, I won't be able to go to the gym on either Thursday (regular volunteer day) or Friday (Artists and Author's Day at the school), so my Wednesday date with the treadmill and Body Pump is non negotiable.

So there!

You know, tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day. I'm not sure if it was wise for the school to schedule pictures on a day in which wearing green is so highly encouraged. Just think how many kids will be wearing green in their pictures.
But, on the bright side, I suppose it's a good way to get the kids to coordinate their outfits for the class picture.

Wish me luck!

Fromage!

Be sure to tie a huge floppy lace bow in Caroline's hair.

She had her pictures today. They divide K-3 and 4-6 between two different days.
We don't do bows. I've learned my lesson and hopefully you have, too. I don't think that image will ever be erased from my memory. So thanks for that!

Apropos of nothing, I really want some cake. Like major seriously bad. You wouldn't happen to have any, would you?

Do you remember when they used to give out plastic combs for picture day? I could never use one.

Sissy,
Apparently they still do, because that's part of my job today.
Yes, you would have one nightmarish hair situation if you used one of those combs. Curly hair + plastic comb = yipes!
